In 2010, I began my journey into competitive cycling. Right from the start, I hired a coach to guide my training, improve performance, and strategically manage my race upgrades. Racing became a fulfilling part of my life, offering exhilarating challenges and memorable achievements.
Over time, as family responsibilities took priority, my ability to maintain a competitive racing schedule diminished. Despite stepping back from active racing, the love for cycling and structured training remained strong. However, continuing with a personal coach became financially and logistically unsustainable. Still, the structure, accountability, and adaptability of coached training were something I deeply valued and missed.
Through a decade of working closely with a coach, I had learned critical insights: fundamentally, I thrived on having a structured, adaptable training plan. Accountability wasn't my challenge - I naturally enjoyed the process and discipline of training. The real need was a dynamic planning tool capable of adjusting to the unpredictable realities of life, such as illness, schedule changes, or shifting goals.
When I decided to return to racing as a masters cyclist, I had a clear vision of what kind of support I needed. My training tool had to go beyond generic training calendars and static plans. It needed the intelligence to map my yearly objectives into actionable, day-by-day plans, continually adapting to maintain progress even when disruptions occurred.
Repth emerged as exactly what I envisioned: a smart, adaptive planning tool tailored specifically for athletes like myself. Repth allows athletes to input annual performance goals, automatically generating a meticulously structured weekly and daily training schedule. More importantly, it dynamically adjusts when real-life interruptions happen, ensuring minimal loss of fitness and momentum.
For instance, when I encountered a sudden illness (as often happens with little ones in the house!) Repth adjusted my training plan immediately, optimizing my recovery while preserving essential fitness adaptations. Likewise, if work or family commitments unexpectedly altered my available training hours, Repth seamlessly rebalanced my workouts to maintain my progress without stress.
Two years after launching Repth and following its plan, I'm still getting stronger. In April, 2025, I reset my peak all-time 20-minute power record during a long climb in the hills of California. Achieving this in my 40s demonstrates the effectiveness of adaptive training.
Since integrating Repth, I've consistently peaked at the right time, feeling confident and prepared for each race, whether a challenging local crit or a grueling 6-hour gravel grinder.
The adaptive nature of Repth provided precisely the structure and responsiveness previously available only through personal coaching, but with greater flexibility and cost-efficiency.
Repth represents a powerful evolution in athletic training, especially valuable to masters athletes balancing family, career, and sport. It bridges the gap between high-level personalized coaching and independent training, offering strategic adaptability without the ongoing costs of personal coaching. Repth empowered my return to racing, enabling consistent, structured, and dynamic training to match my life and ambitions perfectly.
